Do You Believe in Traditional Chinese Herbal Medicine?

As a Chinese I believe Chinese herbs can cure or prevent aliment or illness.Mostly I will only buy herbs that come in original root not process herbs that was in the bottle.Beware Not every Chinese herbs can cure your illness ,some are toxic with arsenic and mercury in Chinese herbal balls.Tradition Chinese Medicine or called TCM is widely know among the Chinese for 5000 years.When I was given birth to my daughter in hospital,my mom advise me not to drink plain cold water and take any shower at all.We Chinese believe in confinement , balancing Yin and Yang in our body.During the 30 days after I was given birth to my daughter,my daily meal consisted of ginger, few bottles of Chinese red wine, rice wine and Benedectine DOM brandy, sesame oil, packets of red and black dates, and Chinese herbs such as ghizhi (medlar seeds, the dried orange-red seeds of a fruit resembling a small brown apple), tong kuei (angelica) and dang shen (the Chinese herb codonopsis pilosula). These herbs are believed to improve blood circulation and revitalize health.The Chinese have two basic classifications of food, cooling and heating. Too much cooling food -- such as leafy vegetables and melons -- is believed to produce wind, muscle cramps and rheumatism. However, excessive heating food -- such as beef, spices, brandy, and some local fruits like durian (a strong smelling fruit with a green thorny exterior and delicious creamy yellow interior) -- causes yuet hei (hot air). The symptoms of this ailment are dry throat and lips. The idea is to strike a good balance, and not to eat an excess of either kinds of foods.During the entire month, I was only permitted to quench my thirst with tea made of red dates. Every night my mother put some red dates, dang shen, dried longan (the fruit of the Chinese evergreen tree) and medlar seeds into a slow cooker. I have to drink red dates drink for 30 days during my confinement.

Ginger, turmeric and other members of the Zingiberaceae family of rhizomes have a long history of use in Malaysian traditional medicine. Ginger, for example, is widely used in the treatment of stomach problems, nausea, vomiting, epilepsy, sore throat, cough, bruises, wounds, childbirth, sore eyes, liver complaints, rheumatism, asthma, and many other disorders. Researchers at the Forest Research Institute of Malaysia now report that several members of the Zingiberaceae family effectively block the promotion of cancerous tumors. They tested 11 different species and found that seven of them had strong anti-tumor properties. Their test involved a short term assay of the inhibitory effect of extracts of the rhizomes (roots) on human cancer cells. They found that turmeric (Curcuma domestica) extracts (turmeric root extracted with petroleum ether, chloroform or ethanol) completely inhibited further growth of the cancer cells. Ginger (Zingiber officinale) extracts, especially the chloroform extract, also inhibited further growth, but the concentration of extract was more critical than for the turmeric extracts. The researchers conclude that turmeric, ginger and other Zingiberaceae rhizomes may be useful in preventing the promotion of cancer and that populations with high risks of cancer should be encouraged to include them in their diet. Further work is now underway to isolate the active components in the plants.

Spicy Food Good for Health?

I love any kind of spicy food.I eat hot pepper in every of my meal no matter what type of food I cook.In winter,when I eat lot of spices,I think it will warm up our body gradually.I know there are lot of benefit eating spicy food not only we feel good or used to it.Spicy foods can strengthen muscles, boost your mood, build brainpower — and help you stay slim.I read an article

Cancer-fighting and cancer-prevention - A recent study shows that capsaicin can be used to fight pancreatic cancer. It slowed the growth of cancer cells and in some cases, even caused cancer cells to die off.
Alleviate inflammation - Arthritis and psoriasis are cause by nerve damage and cause pain on joints. Capsaicin supposedly helps to ease that pain.
Relieve chronic pain - In some cases, spicy foods containing capsaicin greatly reduced pain caused by headaches or osteoporosis.
Heart-health - Cayenne and chili peppers can help to reduce cholesterol. Additionally statistics show that cultures that eat spicy foods (e.g. some Asian countries) frequently have a much lower rate of heart attack and stroke.
